Schools Mapping for admissions, Routing and Transport (SMART)

The Schools Mapping Admissions Routing and Transport System (SMART) is purpose-built for use within Local Education Authorities (LEAs).  It enables pupil's home-to-school distances and routes to be calculated automatically, accurately and quickly, either as the crow flies or via the most detailed road network available in the country. The route optimisation facility allows pupil transportation needs to be satisfied via an efficient sequence of multiple pick-ups.

Many LEAs have applied SMART to handle school admissions, appeals and catchment areas. SMART also has links to Schools Admissons databases from suppliers such as Arete, Capita and RM.
